i've encountered this phenomena, though, in multiple fronts (not just the sword world) where anyone you deal with who you don't get the opportunity to look right in the face, can embelish or frankly make up tragic scenarios to make excuses for lack of follow-through. I have no clue about any fire or lack of fire. that's not enough to set them apart as a different forge, though, to my reckoning. of course we all know that can vary from blade to blade, anyhow. for that reason of course they *can* be a bit more tip-heavy, but the distal taper made up for it in the ones i've owned. they've also had more distal taper, though. the geometry on all the cs ones i've owned or seen were a bit more broad than from df. they do seem to have a little more width to them at the manouchi than some other vendors. i've never had any of the problems that i've seen complaints of. i have a brick and mortar outdoor store here that gets a few swords a year (internet sellers get the bulk of cs stock, and actual stores have to wait on them, isn't that ironic?") and i've picked up a few katana for around or under $200. the thing with cold steel is that if you look a little harder, you can find them cheap. for that reason i've always dubbed any apparent fred chen blade as from huanuo or "one of it's shoot-off forges", but in all honesty i took his words with a lot of salt.įor what it's worth, i've owned quite a hand full of huanuo blades from various makers, and they've all been worth the money. it was coincidentally this same guy who claimed pretty adamantly that he was working with an "exclusive" off-shoot. There was one guy who sold a pretty wide variety of sugata back when it was still unheard of, and unfortunately he had a big falling out with the "fan base", if you will, due to some less-than-honest business practices. i think that was started more to set each vendor apart, though. there was some talk a few years back that there were a few spin-off forges started by sons, head-smiths, etc. I'm of the opinion that there's only one forge. I'm considering buying something from DF's Musha line (tight budget), but I don't want a CS-esque-katana in different colors. So the thing bugging me at the moment is, if it's true that Dynasty Forge uses the sameįorge as Cold Steel, just what does that mean? Or does it even mean anything at all? their handling is a bit awkward, and they just felt "wrong" somehow.įrom what I've read (here at SFI and elsewhere), people seem to like Dynasty Forge.Īnd their swords usually get nice reviews and positive comments made about them.Īlso, from what I've read, their quality control seems to be better than that of Cheness (who tend to have problems with their tsukas). I have tried out several Cold Steel katanas some of my friends have, and I did not like the Is this true? Or is that something that just happened in the past? Or is it completely untrue? I've read in a few threads on here that Dynasty Forge's blades come from the same forge as Cold Steel's.
